LOMOND Baby Hat

I wanted a really simple but sweet baby hat that would work well for a newborn boy or girl. I know that I have written dozens of hat patterns already - but I love trying out new design ideas :)
 
So ........ here is my latest ~

LOMOND Baby Hat            Large Premature/Small Newborn Baby  


Size:
Width:             5 ½ “ (14cm)       11” (28cm) all around 
Height:            5 “ (13cm)


Requirements:
Around 11 - 12g of DK yarn
4mm needles  


Pattern:

Cast on 55sts
1st Row:            S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 9 times more

11th Row:         S1, *k9, p9, repeat from * to end

12th Row:         S1, k8, * p9, k9, repeat from * to last 10sts, p9, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 9 times more

 
Shape Top ~

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k5, k2tog, p2tog, p5, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (43sts)

Next Row:       S1, k6, * p7, k7, repeat from * to last 8sts, p7, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, p2tog, p3, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (31sts)

Next Row:       S1, k4, * p5, k5, repeat from * to last 6sts, p5, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, p2tog, p1, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (19sts)

Next Row:       S1, k2, * p3, k3, repeat from * to last 4sts, p3, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k2tog, psso, p3tog, repeat from * to end          `                           (7sts)

 
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.
With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

Size:
Width:     ~      6 ½ ” (16.5cm)   13” (33cm) all around 

Height:    ~      6 “ (15.25cm)

Requirements:
Around 16g of DK yarn
4mm needles  

 

Pattern:

Cast on 61sts
1stRow:            S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 9 times more

11thRow:         S1, *k10, p10, repeat from * to end

12thRow:         S1, k9, * p10, k10, repeat from * to last 11sts, p10, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 11 times more

(Work should now measure around 4½” – it is easy to adjust the length here)

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k6, k2tog, p2tog, p6, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (49sts)

Next Row:       S1, k7, * p8, k8, repeat from * to last 9sts, p8, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k4, k2tog, p2tog, p4, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (37sts)

Next Row:       S1, k5, * p6, k6, repeat from * to last 7sts, p6, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k2, k2tog, p2tog, p2, p2tog, repeat from * to end        (25sts)

Next Row:       S1, k3, * p4, k4, repeat from * to last 5sts, p4, k1

Next Row:        S1, *s1, k1, psso, k2tog, p2tog, p2tog, repeat from * to end                     (13sts)

Next Row:       S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Next Row:        S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to end          `                                               (10sts)
