Granny Square Blanket with a difference

When I finish a project I save all my left over yarn - even small amounts.
Nothing is wasted in this house!
And then I crochet some easy granny squares whilst watching TV usually.
A few here - a few there ......... and sometime later ........I discover that I have enough to make a little blanket.
I have been doing this for years and I have usually made some variation or alteration each time. I love to try new things - and I am happy to try out new ideas. Sometimes I sew the squares together, sometimes I crochet them together ..... this time I decided to do a little of both and to join the squares in a different way just to be creative !
The granny squares for this blanket are quite small as it is for a baby.
I made each just 3 rounds

Once I had enough little squares I laid them out in a pattern that looked balanced - with colours evenly distributed.
And sewed them together into strips of 8 squares
Then I crocheted all around each strip in in pretty white sparkly yarn
- one treble crochet in every stitch
Once I had done that around all 8 strips of 8 squares, I decided to join the strips together using a contrast colour.
I chose a lovely turquoise - one of my favourite colours

I crocheted the strips together on the right side and it gave a raised line which I like the look of
4 strips joined - 4 more to add !
And to finish it off - a border of half treble crochet all around
