First Day Baby Hat

Recently I experienced the great joy of welcoming my first Grandchild into the world! 
The first item she wore was a little hat of course! And I realised the importance of a sweet little hat that STAYS ON! 
So here is my latest pattern - for a cute little hat that fits snugly! 


First Day Baby Hat



First Day Baby Hat                     Large Preemie / Small Newborn

11″ circumference when stretched,  5“ high



DK yarn (around 12g of acrylic yarn)

4mm needles

 

Cast on 55sts

1st 
Row:            S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:           S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows once more

5thRow:           S1, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last 6sts, k3, p2, k1                    

6th Row:           S1, k2, * p3, k3, repeat from * to last 4sts, p3, k1


Repeat the last 2 rows more 12 times more

Next Row:         S1, * k3, p2tog, p1, repeat from * to end                                  (46sts)

Next Row:         S1, k1, * p3, k2, repeat from * to last 4sts, p3, k1

Next Row:         S1, * k3, p2tog, repeat from * to end                                       (37sts)                  

Next Row:         S1, * p3, k1, repeat from * to end

Next Row:         S1, *k1, k2tog, p1, repeat from * to end                                   (28sts) 


Next Row:         S1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end


Next Row:         S1, *s1, k1, psso, p1, repeat from * to end                              (19sts)

 

Next Row:         S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

 

Next Row:         K2tog, across row, to last st, k1                                               (10sts)


Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.


With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

DK yarn (around 15g of acrylic yarn)

4mm needles

 

Cast on 61sts


1st 
Row:            S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd 
Row:           S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

7thRow:           S1, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last 6sts, k3, p2, k1                    

8th Row:           S1, k2, * p3, k3, repeat from * to last 4sts, p3, k1


Repeat the last 2 rows more 14 times more
