Bruce Hat

I don't normally add pom-poms to baby hats, but the 'soon-to-be-mum' that I made this for especially asked for a big pom-pom for her baby hat!  

I hope she likes my gift. 


Bruce Baby Hat              Large Preemie/Small Newborn Baby


Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 12 – 14g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)              

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:          11” all around                            

Height:         5¼”                       


Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 57sts

1stRow:       S1, knit across row

2nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more

11thRow:     S1, knit across row

12thRow:     S1, purl to last st, k1      

Repeat the last 2 rows 9 times more

                             

Shape Top ~

1st  Row:      (K5, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                    49sts
2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th & 10th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd  Row:      (K4, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    41sts
5th  Row:      (K3, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    33sts
7th  Row:      (K2, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    25sts
9th  Row:      (K1, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                   17sts
11th Row:     (K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                            9sts

Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam. 

Darn away ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 15 – 18g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)              

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:          12” all around                            

Height:         5½”                       

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 65sts

1stRow:       S1, knit across row

2nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times more

13thRow:     S1, knit across row

14thRow:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 9 times more

 

Shape Top ~

1st  Row:      (K6, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                               57sts
2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th & 10th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd  Row:      (K5, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                              49sts
5th  Row:      (K4, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                              41sts
7th  Row:      (K3, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                              33sts
9th  Row:      (K2, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                             25sts
11th  Row     (K1, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                              17sts
13th  Row     (K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                                      9sts

Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.

Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 18 – 20g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)    

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:    6½ “ (16.5cm),   13” (33cm) all around 

Height:   6½ “ (16.5cm)

 

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 71sts

1stRow:       S1, knit across row

2nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 6 times more

15thRow:     S1, knit across row

16thRow:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 10 times more

 

Shape the top ~


Row 1:         (K5, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                    61sts

2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th & 10th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
Row3:         (K4, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                   51sts

Row 5:        (K3, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                   41sts

Row 7:         (K2, k2tog), rep to last st, k1                                 31sts

Row 9:         (K1, k2tog, rep to last st, k1                                   21sts

Row 11:       (K2tog), rep to last st, k1                                       11sts

Row 12:       S1, (p1, p2tog) across row to last st, k1                 8sts

Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam. 

Darn away ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 22 – 24g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)    

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:    6¾   “ (17cm),   13½ ” (34cm) all around 

Height:   6¾   “ (17cm)   

         

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 73sts

1stRow:       S1, knit across row

2nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 7 times more

17thRow:     S1, knit across row

18thRow:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 11 times more

 

Shape the top ~


1st Row:       (K6, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             64sts
2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th & 10th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd Row:       (K5, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             55sts
5th Row:       (K4, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                            46sts
7th Row:       (K3, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             37sts
9th Row:       (K2, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             28sts
11th Row:     (K1, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             19sts
13th Row:     (K2tog) across row to last st, k1                             10sts

14th Row:     S1, (p2tog, p1) across row to end                           7sts
