Hats to Match the Hugs

Last week I made this little set as part of a small baby shower gift - hope the mum likes them!
 
 
 
Hundreds of you have enjoyed knitting my little Hug Boots - so I thought you might like the pattern for this little easy-to-knit matching hat.
 
 
Hats for Hugs
Large Premature Baby Hat
Using 3.5mm or 3.75mm needles cast on 56sts  
Work 8 rows in K2, P2 rib
I do it this way ~
Row 1:S1, p1, *k2, p2, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 2:S1, k1, *p2, k2, repeat from * to last 2sts, p1, k1       
Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more.
Increase one stitch       (57sts)
 
Change to 4mm needles
Work 14 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl)
 
Shape Crown
1st Row:          (K5, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        49sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8thRows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd Row:          (K4, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        41sts
5th Row:          (K3, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        33sts
7th Row:          (K2, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        25sts
9th Row            (K1, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        17sts
10th Row           (P2tog) repeat to last st, k1                               9sts
Cut off yarn, leaving a tail. Thread tail onto a needle and pass through remaining stitches. Pull to gather up.
Sew side seam. Weave in ends.
 
Newborn Baby Hat
 
Using 3.5mm or 3.75mm needles cast on 62sts
Work 10 rows in K2, P2 rib
I do it this way ~
Row 1:S1, p1, *k2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1
 
Row 2:S1, k1, *p2, k2, repeat from * to end  
Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more, increasing one stitch at each end of last row   (64sts)            
 
Change to 4mm needles
Work 18 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl)
Increase one stitch at the beginning of the last row     (65sts)
 
Shape Crown
1st  Row:          (K6, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                         57sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th  Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd  Row:          (K5, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        49sts
5th  Row:          (K4, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        41sts
7th  Row:          (K3, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        33sts
9th  Row:          (K2, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        25sts
11th Row           (K1, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                        17sts
12th Row           (P2tog) repeat to last st, k1                               9sts
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.
Cut off yarn, leaving a tail. Thread tail onto a needle and pass through remaining stitches. Pull to gather up.
Sew side seam. Weave in ends.
