Chemo Hat for Vikki

Chemo Hat for Vikki

I was asked to write a pattern for a chemo hat for a very special lady. She loves the 1940’s vintage turban look …….
So ……  I made her this ~ I really wanted to brighten up her life a little by making something special - just for her.

I know that treatment means that the head is very sensitive. So I chose to use King Cole Smooth DK.

If you are going to knit this as a chemo hat – please use a soft yarn (inexpensive acrylics are just not suitable for this ……) – maybe spend a little more money than you usually would – it is a very special gift after all. Cotton is great for the summer, maybe cashmere for the winter …….

If you like the hat and want to knit one for yourself – then of course any DK yarn will be fine!

I knitted the smaller size – heads with no hair are smaller than the average head. If you are knitting this for someone with lots of hair – then I suggest you measure the head – and chose the size that will fit best.

I really hope that Vikki will enjoy her hat, and that there will be happier times ahead…….

Glitz Snowflake Decoration

Two years ago I wrote the instructions to make easy snowflake
Christmas Decorations.

I still love making them -
and I really love these ones I have just finished using a touch of
King Cole Xmas Glitz.

So pretty - and so easy to make.

Glitz Easy Snowflake Decorations

King Cole Glitz

To make the Snowflake Motif ~

These instructions use UK terminology

Use a medium weight yarn. I made these with DK yarn and a 4mm hook.

Chain 3 stitches and join with a slip stitch into a circle.

Chain 1, then make 5 double crochet stitches into the circle. Join with a slip stitch. (6sts)

Chain 5, then make 3 trebles and chain 2 into next 5 stitches, make 2 trebles in last stitch and join to first 5 chain with a slip stitch.

Chain 2, then (make 2 trebles, chain 3, make 3 trebles) into the first chain space, then (make 3 trebles, chain 3, make 3 trebles) into each chain space all around. Join with a slip  stitch.

To make an edging ~  double crochet all around.

To make a hanging cord ( if desired) ~ chain 15. Attach to the motif.

Jack & Jill ~ Premature Baby Cardigan Jackets

I love writing preemie baby patterns - there is such a need for them

- and especially cute and easy patterns for the boys.

I think this design works for both boys & girls,

so I have called it Jack & Jill

Jack & Jill  ~   Premature Baby Cardigan Jackets

Note - if you are a traditionalist - and prefer the buttons on the opposite side for a girl - then make the buttonholes at the end of the row instead of the beginning :)
