Easy Crochet Poncho

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
Easy Toddler Crochet Poncho

I would like to point out that this is not my design -
this traditional way of crocheting a poncho has been around for a very long time!
I remember my Mum showing me how to make these over 40 years ago!

These instructions use UK terminology ~

CH = chain          TR = treble crochet         SS = slip stitch

Toddler Poncho

I used 86g of DK (8ply) yarn and 4mm hook

CH 72 and join with a SS  (make sure the chain is not twisted)

Round 1:                TR (treble crochet) in every chain stitch

Round 2:  CH 3 and work a TR into the next 2 stitches,  * CH 1 skip a stitch, and work a TR into the next 3 stitches,   Repeat from * 16 times more, CH1,  SS to join.   (You should have 18 clusters of TR's and 18 spaces)

Round 3:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 6 times (you will have 8 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 6 times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  CH1, and SS to join (you will now have 8 clusters, a point, 8 clusters and a point)

Round 4:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 6 times (you will have 8 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 8  times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  jump to the next space and work 3TR, CH1, and SS to join

Continue  -  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, work 3TR into every space, and  work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into each point  - and end each round with CH1, and SS to join - for 18 more rounds (or until the length you require)

Darn away ends

Add a crochet chain drawstring cord to the base of the first round, and tie in a bow

You could add a crochet shell edging  - or fringes – if you like

Sew up the back seam

Darn away ends

Make a crochet chain drawstring (or use a ribbon if you prefer)

Thread it through the eyelet holes at the neckline, and tie in a bow

Easter Bunny Egg Cosy

I am making these Easter Bunnies just for a bit of fun ..........   :)  Wish I was better at the faces !

These will be cute little Easter gifts ~ some with a chocolate egg inside - others with a large hard-boiled egg! I have very happy memories of decorating these when I was a girl - then rolling them down a hill along with all my sister, cousins and friends. Simple pastimes in those simpler days gone by. I wonder if children still do that? I always loved Easter time as a girl ..... not just for the chocolate ..... but also because it meant I would have a new dress (handmade by my Mum) and a pair of summer sandals.

Also ~ looking back I am sure Cadbury Crème Eggs used to be much bigger! When did they get so small?

I used DK (8ply) yarn and smaller size needles to make these. This gives a denser fabric and the contents do not show through so much. Toy makers often use this technique too.

Sally

My friend Sally challenged me with this project ……

We have been friends for a few years now ~ we are both passionate knitters ~ but we almost never talk about knitting. She loves to knit scarves, and she loves to tell me that she doesn’t ‘do’ baby knitting!

I love to tell her that I hate eyelash yarn – I find it so difficult to knit with!  You have to go by feel rather than by seeing the stitches….. and it is impossible to unpick if you go wrong …….

So we respect each other’s preferences and just don’t discuss it!!!

Until last week.

When we last met up Sally challenged me with finding a way to use up her small part balls……… she has a lot of eyelash yarn left over from completed projects.

Those of you who have been following me for a while know that I love a challenge !!!!

My first thought was perhaps some cute little teddies ……

But what do I know about toys? (though I am happy to learn of course) …. So - that may well be a future project for 2016 ;)

My thoughts then turned naturally to what I know best. And the Sally Hat was born.

Hope our friendship survives it!

Babiana Baby Blanket

I loved crocheting this baby blanket - it looked so pretty right through - from the start of the project to the end! So satisfying .......

But there is one small problem.

I like it so much that I really don't want to give it away ! Do you ever do that?

Almost everything I make is gifted ~ to family, friends and charities that I support.

So what to do?

I didn't write out the instructions - I just made it up as I went along. So should I make another, and write up the pattern this time?

Whisper  - tiny writing

maybe I should start a'baby hope' chest - for a future grandchild .....

....... and put this in the bottom ....... ?
